7 Great Christmas Gifts For Men
Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at 12:01AM
It’s that time of year again. The time women everywhere bite their nails wondering what to get their guy for Christmas. It starts when we’re young. We have no idea what to buy our fathers for Christmas. They always say, “I don’t need anything,” which I have learned over time is just their way of trying to take the pressure off.
Truth be told, fathers do like getting gifts, but they are so difficult to buy for, so they’re often stuck with practical gifts like tube socks, underwear, ties, cologne and soap on the rope. I remember when I was about seven years old I made my brother a pair of sunglasses from red and green cellophane and black construction paper. I’m sure he really appreciated those!
Every man is different, so there’s no such thing as the perfect gift. The most important thing is that you put a little thought into it. If you really want to show the man you’re dating that you care, and even your father for that matter, here are a few awesome gift ideas that the men in your life are sure to enjoy:
KINDLE FIRE: Whether it’s the sports section, biographies or Stephen King’s latest masterpiece, most men like to read. The new Kindle Fire with full color 7” Multi-Touch display and Wifi is only $199 and was released just in time for the holidays. If that doesn’t fit your budget, or is simply too much flash, try a Kindle touch for only $99.
VIDEO GAMES: Sony’s Uncharted 3: Drakes Deception is the latest, hottest video game out on Playstation 3 and is only $54.99 on Amazon, and the reviews are awesome. Equal parts action movie and romantic comedy, Uncharted 3 is akin to playing a top-tier Hollywood blockbuster movie. Even girls who hate video games like watching men play this game, so it’s a win-win.
STAR WARS COLLECTION: Starring 1970’s heart throb Mark Hamill (I know, what ever happened to him?) and Harrison Ford, and directed by George Lucas, the original StarWars trilogy on Blu-ray is a collection every man will be proud to own. And, it’s only $39.99 on Amazon. If you really want to blow his mind—that is, if he’s not a purist—get him the Complete Saga for $86.99
ANYTHING APPLE: Even if your man is a PC user, he’ll love anything from Apple for it’s sleek design, light weight and easy-to-use technology. There’s virtually no learning curve to the legacy of products Steve Jobs inspired. Even an iTunes gift card as a stocking stuffer is a great idea for music and movie downloads, but I’d recommend the iPad 2 with 64 gigs of ram, Wifi and 3G for $829. That is, if you really want to say “I love you.”
COOL KICKS: Does your man think Eddie Bauer chinos and New Balance sneakers are haute couture? Don’t overwhelm him with an extreme makeover to his wardrobe. Start from the bottom up with a cool new pair of sneakers. From walking to basketball and long-distance running, Nike is the ultimate in fashion meets function, offering ultra cool styles that way out perform the lame white sneaker look. Nike Airmax II ($160) can be custom built online. You choose the color scheme. You can even put his name or initials on the heel. Or, get a pair of Velcro fastening Taisoku II Pumas for $85. They’re easy to get in and out of and feel like slippers, but look way cool.
SPORTING EVENT TICKETS: Whether it’s Lakers Tickets, tickets to a UFC match in Vegas, tickets to the Rose Bowl or to some other sporting event, he’s gonna love this gift. Lets face it, men like sports. They like playing them, and they love watching them. If for some reason the date you chose for the tickets doesn’t work for him, he can score points with one of his buddies by passing them on or trade them on Stubhub for a date that works.
MAGAZINE SUBSCRIPTIONS – from GQ and Maxim to The New Yorker and The Atlantic, guys love to read and they love magazines. If your guy is an early adopter of technology, you can get him online subscriptions for his iPad 2. If he prefers conventional ink and paper, get him a few paper subscriptions. It’s something he would probably really appreciate, but never get around to doing for himself.
