You’re So Vain…

You probably think this post is about you. Don’t you? Don’t You?

Carly Simon, I feel your pain, girl. I've got some clouds in my coffee, too!

In the 1988 movie Beaches, Bette Midler’s character, the cynical, struggling entertainer CC Bloom says “Enough about me. Let’s talk about you. What do you think of me?” A great line from a great movie. Not only is it a great line, but it pretty much sums up dating in Los Angeles. I can’t begin to count how many times I‘ve gone on a date with a man who talks about himself the entire night, never asking me a single question about my life.

This happened again the other night. I had accepted a date through a personalized dating service. They call me about once every three years, whether I want them to or not, to inform me that they have found my ideal match. Yeah, right. And if so, what took you so long? But, in addition to being the world's greatest cynic, I'm also an eternal optimist and a firm believer that dating is a numbers game, so I figured why not? In retrospect, I can think of so many reasons why not. Like, I could have spent the evening drinking a bottle of Peter Michael Chardonnay alone and reorganizing my lingerie drawer. At least that would be fun!

The Top 7 Bedroom Moves That Will Rock Her World

Author Matt Titus recently wrote an article called The Top 5 Bedroom Moves That Will Rock His World for BettyConfidential.  Being a rather sexual woman, I tend to agree with Matt’s suggestions – they are all moves that I’ve employed and they have proven highly effective. But, maybe that’s because I employed them all on the same night. While Matt’s advice is for how women can rock a man’s world (don’t we do that by just agreeing to have sex with him?), I thought it might be useful for my male readers to hear how they can rock a woman's world in the bedroom. So, I asked a few friends and a loyal readers, and of course drew from my own experience, and here’s what I have come up with.

The Morning After

Okay, you got her to spend the night at your place. Now you want to make sure she keeps coming back. Great sex alone may not do the trick. Watch my video blog on how to make a simple breakfast that will knock her socks off and keep them off. The great thing about this breakfast is most of the ingredients stay fresh a long time and are easy to keep on hand - just incase she spends the night. Here's a list of ingredients you will need:

  • French bread
  • 2 eggs
  • milk
  • butter and/or canola oil
  • coffee
  • tea
  • 4-6 valencia oranges
  • half bottle of champagne
  • real whipped cream (in a canister)
  • Fresh strawberries, blueberries, raspberries
  • cinnamon (optional)
  • powdered sugar (optional)
  • maple syrup (optional)

Manscaping Part Two: Why Men Color Their Hair

In the Madmen era, men went to the barber for a buzz cut, swiped on some brylcreem, splashed on a little cologne and they were good to go. Today, men spend almost as much time on personal grooming as women do - getting manicures, pedicures, waxing and hair coloring. Male celebrities such as Brad Pitt, Patrick Dempsey, Ben Stiller and Will Smith color their hair to stay looking youthful for the screen, so why can’t the every day man? Well, it turns out they can and they do, especially here in Los Angeles where they not only frequent the salon, but have their own colorist.  In this blog, we’ll find out more about why men color their hair, whether it’s to appear younger, look more confident, feel more confident, or get more women.

Manscaping Part 1: Wax On, Wax Off

I was recently in my dermatologist's waiting room where I met a hetero - or rather metro - guy who was there to get laser hair removal. I didn’t ask where. This got me thinking about manscaping. Women have always been obsessed with personal grooming – from manicures and pedicures to bikini waxes and facial. But, now male grooming is more popular than ever. Is it just in ego-centric cities like Los Angeles, or is it happening everywhere? I once had boyfriend who would rather look like an old man than let me trim one errant brow hair. You would think I was performing open-heart surgery on him without anesthetic by the look on his face. Join me at Anastasia Brow Salon in Beverly Hills as I try hitting below the belt on the subject of male grooming.
